International relief association Samaritan’s Purse and senior Braeden Sanborn help clean up Tampa from hurricane damage.
“I’m happy I could help; I like to do what I can. It was a big volunteer force so there were so many people. They even said there were hundreds and hundreds of people after a week of the hurricane,” Sanborn said.
Hurricanes Milton and Halene destroyed around 300 homes and damaged more than a thousand in Florida. Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian, non-profit association that provides spiritual and physical aid to hurting areas around the world. They aid victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, diseases and famine through the beliefs of Jesus Christ.
“Once you see all the debris and trash piled up on people’s lawn [from all the damage], it makes it all feel more tangible,” Sanborn said.
Braeden always wanted to volunteer in a position like this. His mother learned about Samaritan’s Purse through Shelby Bible Church where she attends every Sunday.
“I am truly humbled by the fact that my 17-year-old son is focused on serving others,” Braeden’s mother Debra Sanborn said. “I treasure him for that especially in a world that’s so self-centered and for looking out from within.”
