Second place isn’t an option for this year’s dance team.

Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV) dance participated in their first competition of the season held at Clarkston High School. Both dance teams came in with high intensity.

“It’s the first competition of the season so not only do we need to perform well, but it’s a good time to see what we’ll be facing in nationals,” senior Varsity captain Sydney Oprita said.

Varsity danced under the categories of large Varsity jazz and large Varsity hip hop while JV danced under the categories of JV jazz and JV pom.

“It was our first year doing pom so I was pretty nervous going against last year’s number one team, but we worked as a team and came out on top,” JV dancer Alissa Cammarata said.

JV and Varsity scored first in both their dances and let everyone know they aren’t here to mess around. They plan to continue winning first throughout the rest of season and not stop until nationals is over.

“It felt great winning the competition,” Oprita said. “It’s the best way to start off the season and let everyone know that our hard work is paying off.”
