Donahue shows charity

The smells of syrup and bacon drift from the blue hallway, drawing students and staff alike into economics teacher Kevin Donahue’s room as he orchestrates food sales to raise money for Toys for Tots.

“Everybody loves Mr. Donahue’s food days,” senior Emily Rizzi said. “He’s an awesome guy and you can tell he has a lot of passion in everything that he does.”

Whether it’s a full breakfast including pancakes, waffles and bacon or a walking taco, Donahue is seen once or twice a month selling food to students.

“There’s a lot of kids who don’t do anything. I mean, you got a dime in your pocket? You got 50 cents rolling around on the floors of your car? There’s always a way that you can give more,” Donahue said. “You just have to find a way and make a goal and follow through and do it.”

All profits of the sales during the first quarter go towards Toys for Tots. Last year, Donahue’s food sales raised over $1,000 for the charity. He aims to match that amount with this year’s three sales, if not surpass it.

“You see so many people who have so little,” Donahue said. “It’s the least I can do to try to and provide some kind of comfort or warmth in any way for the kids who need it.”
