Homecoming king and queen Iain Robb and Carina Hanna pose for photos at the homecoming football game.

The crowd cheers, the cameras flash and the homecoming king and queen stand united.

“I was thinking that I wasn’t going to win,” homecoming king senior Iain Robb said, “but I was like, I’m happy no matter what just being here. But I was super super surprised when I actually did win and the balloon came out of my box.”

The king is announced at the pep assembly at the start of homecoming week and the queen is announced at the homecoming football game at the end of the week.

The king is announced first in case he is on the football team and to let him have the glory before the queen is announced. Announcing the king first also gets everybody excited to find out who the queen is, senior class president Therese Reinhold said.

“Honestly, I didn’t think I would win,” homecoming queen senior Carina Hanna said, “I didn’t even think I’d get on the ballot, but it’s really cool and I’m just super excited.”
