Decorating competition ends in tie

The sound of students cutting construction paper fills the hallway. Doors are covered with familiar paper Christmas scenes. Students and teachers work together on the door decorating competition.

“We used to do the door decorating for the holiday season and we haven’t done it in a long time. I thought we should bring it back,” art teacher Jennifer Ramirez said.

With funds running low, the art department held a door decorating competition fundraiser to raise money for supplies. First and second hour could compete in the competition and students and teachers paid a $15 fee. The competition earned the art department over $100 for new supplies.

“I also got to talk to [peers] that I didn’t talk to before in class,” senior Sophia Carlesimo said.

The competition took place during the second week of Dec. during school hours and the winners announced on Dec. 8 were accounting teacher Angela Melton and math teacher Michelle Schuchard. Both classes won a breakfast of juice and pancakes.

“We had a good time bonding,” Melton said, “and doing a good teamwork activity.”
