“Waking up to kiss you and nobody’s there. The smell of your perfume still stuck in the air. It’s hard.”

What’s not hard is loving this song. Niall Horan debuts his first solo track during One Direction’s supposed hiatus. Horan’s strengths, like playing guitar and using his strong, yet soft tone, are expressed in this captivating ballad.

‘This Town’ reminds me of multiple scenarios which is beautiful in itself. It reminds me of a lost love, a new romance, and even when I lived in Iowa. When a song can mean so many different things and relate to so many different people, that’s when the artist has created a hit.

Horan’s sound is reminiscent to that of Ed Sheeran and Passenger, who are both successful solo artists. When Horan sings acoustic songs, it reminds us of the raw talent that he has compared to a lot of the pop-y and autotuned music that plays on the radio nowadays.

This song gives us a taste of what we can expect from Horan in his upcoming album. Until then, take a listen to a live rendition of ‘This Town’ by Niall Horan from The Late Late Show.
