The Men’s Varsity Tennis Team poses for a group shot in celebration of making it into finals. “We hung out together at states and I feel like we are a pretty close team,” senior K.J Wilk said.

The men’s varsity tennis team made it to the state finals in Midland, Michigan this October. “Getting into finals is always a goal of the tennis team and this is my third time going,” senior K.J. Wilk said. The tournament involved both doubles, where two team members play together against another two and singles, where one member plays alone. The team has four doubles teams and four singles teams. The team came in second overall in regionals, but doubles pair Wilk and senior Jim Leszczynski, earned first place in doubles. The team had a bye, also known as a win, because of  the other team forfeiting their first round. The team then proceeded to win their next three games, giving the Varsity Tennis team enough points to go to the finals. “Eisenhower has had one of the better programs in tennis for years,” Varsity Tennis Coach Mike Pearson said.“ I’ve coached against them at the other school that I was at,” Pearson said. After the tennis team made it to the finals however, they lost in the first match. “I felt very honored to be part of only 20 teams in the whole state to go to finals,” senior Danny Scrivano said. The team consistently got into the state finals for four years now and is continuing to improve by increasing their training periods and playing against more difficult opponents. “This summer I will be practicing two days a week in open court sessions with them,” Pearson said. “I am also trying to get as many teammates as I can to practice with over the winter.”
