Nichols serves chocolate-covered crickets to students

Biology and physiology teacher brought in homemade chocolate covered crickets for any student brave enough to try one.

Before bringing them in for students to eat, Nichols fed the crickets apples to clean out their digestive tracks, froze them, dipped them in hot chocolate and waited for them to dry.

“I did this because it was the seniors last day,” Nichols said. “And because it’s a source of protein and the students shouldn’t be afraid to try new things.”

At least two people from each class tried them, with pictures and videos of the students eating the chocolate covered crickets posted on social media sites.

“I like being brave and doing weird things,” sophomore Christina Atanasoska said. “But I definitely did not like how the cricket’s antennas got stuck in my teeth.”
