Construction trip: students gain exposure of industry

After an entire day of learning, looking and listening, the construction field trip gave students a first-hand look at the Industrial Industry.

“I’m very glad I went on this trip,” junior carpentry student Kurtis Kennedy said. “We got a first-hand look at the real-life careers we’re interested in.”

The students began their day by visiting the Detroit Carpenter’s Facility (DCF). While there, they toured the facility and got to experience an active carpentry facility hard at work.

“As I walked through the DCF, I saw so much,” junior carpentry student William Meerschaert said. “I learned that there is a lot of time and effort put into carpentry and other trades.”

Once their tour of the DCF was complete, the students made their way to a construction site in Sterling Heights.

At the construction site, located at 16 Mile and Schoenherr roads, the students were given a tour of a live condominium construction site. They also learned about the construction process.

“This was a true learning experience; we all got to see how everything was set up, how it was put together and what it takes to build everything,” Meerschaert said. “I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity.”
